By installing, registering or using the app, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not accept these terms, you may not use the app.
PHE Buddy offers the following features:
We strive for high availability of the app. However, planned maintenance or unforeseen outages may occur. There is no entitlement to uninterrupted availability. The offline function allows the use of essential app features without an internet connection.
The use of essential app features requires the creation of a user account. You agree to provide truthful and complete information during registration and to keep it up to date.
You are responsible for the security of your login credentials. We recommend using biometric authentication (Face ID / fingerprint), a strong unique password, and not sharing your credentials with third parties.
If you suspect unauthorised access, please notify us immediately at support@phe-buddy.at.
Users under 16 years of age require the consent of a parent or guardian. For children with PKU, we recommend shared use under parental supervision.
PHE Buddy is expressly not a medical device within the meaning of the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745) and Austrian law. The app is not certified, approved or registered as a medical device and is not subject to MDR requirements.
PHE Buddy is a digital tool for personal organisation and support of self-management of Phenylketonuria (PKU). The app:
All decisions regarding your PKU treatment, your daily PHE limit and your diet must be made exclusively in consultation with qualified medical professionals (physician, dietitian, PKU centre).
The PHE values displayed in the app are based on available nutritional databases and your personal input. We do not guarantee the completeness and accuracy of all food PHE values. Always verify critical values with your medical professional. PHE values may vary depending on product batch, manufacturer and preparation.
The daily PHE limit displayed in the app is entered manually by the user. The app does not calculate an individual daily limit and does not make any recommendations for a threshold value. The actual individual daily PHE limit must be determined and regularly adjusted by qualified medical professionals (physician, dietitian, PKU centre). The app only shows how much of the entered limit has already been used.
PCM Solution GmbH accepts no liability for health damage, deterioration of health or medical complications arising directly or indirectly from the use of the app or the data contained therein. This applies in particular when app data is used as the basis for treatment decisions without consulting medical professionals.
PHE Buddy uses AI-powered features (in particular food recognition from photos and voice input). In accordance with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), we inform you about the use of these systems.

All AI-generated suggestions (e.g. recognised food items) are suggestions for manual confirmation by the user. No AI function makes independent decisions.
In accordance with the EU AI Act, we ensure the following transparency measures:
The AI food recognition provides suggestions based on training data and is not error-free. We do not guarantee the accuracy of AI-generated suggestions. Review all AI suggestions before adding them to your PHE log. When in doubt, use manual input.

You agree to use the app exclusively for its intended purpose — personal PHE management for PKU.
The following uses are expressly prohibited: sharing your user account with third parties, commercial use without explicit written permission, manipulation or reverse engineering of the app, automated access to the app or its data, entering false health data, and any use that violates applicable law.
Camera and photo library: For food photos and upload. Optional — core app functions remain available without this permission.
Microphone: For optional voice input when logging food.
Biometrics (Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint): For secure login. Biometric data never leaves your device.
Push notifications: For PHE warnings and reminders. Can be disabled at any time in settings.
Apple Health / Google Health Connect: For automatic import of weight and activity data. Fully optional.
Entries are stored locally on your device and automatically synchronised upon the next internet connection. Unsynchronised local data will be lost if the app is uninstalled. We recommend regular synchronisation for complete data security.
PHE Buddy supports the display of push notifications on connected smartwatches (Apple Watch, Wear OS, Galaxy Watch, etc.). Forwarding is handled automatically by your smartphone's operating system. A dedicated smartwatch app is not part of PHE Buddy.
PHE Buddy is completely and permanently free for all users. There are no costs for downloading, registering or using the app. PHE Buddy contains no in-app purchases, subscriptions or hidden costs. We finance the app as part of PCM Solution GmbH's SaaS offering.
All features are available free of charge: PHE logging, full food database, push notifications, offline recording, Apple Health and Google Health Connect integration, biometric authentication, medication reminders, weight tracking, camera function and voice input.
All rights to the app, including source code, design, logos, texts and databases, belong to PCM Solution GmbH or its licensors. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence for personal use on your own devices. Data entered by you remains your property.
PCM Solution GmbH is only liable for damages caused by intentional or grossly negligent conduct. Liability for slight negligence is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
We accept no liability for health damage resulting from decisions made on the basis of app data without specialist medical consultation.
PHE Buddy uses the following third-party providers — their own terms apply to their services: PCM Holding GmbH (IT infrastructure and ticketing system), Agentur Circle GmbH (marketing and SALES Hub), Hetzner Online GmbH (hosting Germany), SysEleven GmbH (hosting Germany), Mittwald CM Service GmbH & Co. KG (AI services Germany), OpenAI LLC (AI image processing failover, USA, EU-US DPF certified), Firebase / Google LLC (push notifications) and Apple Inc. (Push Notification Service APNs).
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account.
We reserve the right to suspend or delete user accounts in the event of serious violations of these Terms of Use without prior notice.
Upon termination or account deletion, you immediately lose access to all stored data. All personal data will be irreversibly deleted within 30 days.
After account deletion, certain data will be fully anonymised and used in this form — for statistical analysis to improve the food database, to improve app features, and to improve AI-powered functions.
Anonymisation is carried out so that no conclusions about your identity are possible (Recital 26 GDPR). You can object to the use of anonymised data at any time under Settings → Privacy → Data Usage.
Downloads via the Google Play Store are additionally subject to the Terms of Service of Google LLC (https://play.google.com/about/play-terms/). Google is not a party to these Terms of Use.
Material changes will be communicated at least 30 days before they take effect via push notification or email. Continued use of the app after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
Austrian law applies. Place of jurisdiction for disputes with businesses is Vienna, Austria. The EU Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr
